Privacy Policy

EnergyBoom LLC ("EnergyBoom," "we," "us," or "our") operates the WattChop platform ("Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and what choices you have. By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, full name, and organization name. Authentication is handled through Firebase Authentication, a Google service. We store a reference to your Firebase account identifier but do not store passwords directly.

Project & Energy Data

When you create projects, you may provide:

• Site information — project name, address, city, state, ZIP code, and geographic coordinates
• Interval energy data — 15-minute, 30-minute, or 60-minute electricity consumption records uploaded via CSV or Green Button XML
• Utility and tariff selections — your chosen utility company and rate schedule
• System specifications — solar PV capacity, battery size, and configuration preferences
• Synthesized load profiles — when you use the WattChop Synthesizer, we generate modeled energy data from the monthly billing information you provide

Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Platform, including pages visited, features used, optimization runs performed, and timestamps of activity. This data helps us improve the Platform and troubleshoot issues.

Communications

When you contact us by email or through the Platform, we retain the content of those communications to respond to your request and improve our services.

2. How We Use Your Information

Improve the Platform	Anonymized and aggregated usage patterns, building type classifications, and regional load data
Billing & credits	Account info, credit usage, and promo code redemptions

3. Anonymized Data & Aggregation

Specifically, we may aggregate and anonymize:

• Building type classifications and load shape patterns
• Regional energy consumption trends
• Seasonal load correlations
• Tariff-to-consumption relationships

This aggregated data helps improve load profile synthesis accuracy for the entire platform and may, in the future, power anonymized market intelligence products. No individual project, customer, or organization is identifiable in any aggregated dataset.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Platform. Each processes only the minimum data necessary for its function:

We do not sell your personal information to any third party. We do not share your identifiable data with advertisers, data brokers, or any entity outside the services listed above.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a TimescaleDB database hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS for all connections)
• Encryption at rest for stored data
• Firebase Authentication for access control
• Role-based permissions within organizations (admin, member, viewer)
• Isolated multi-tenant architecture — your data is not visible to other organizations

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform services. Specifically:

• Account data — retained until you request account deletion
• Project data and interval data — retained until you delete the project or request account deletion
• Optimization results and reports — retained with the associated project
• Anonymized aggregated data — retained indefinitely, as it contains no identifying information
• Transactional email logs — retained per Mailjet's standard retention policy

When you delete a project, the associated interval data, optimization results, and reports are permanently removed from our active database. When you request account deletion, all of your personal data and project data are permanently removed.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data — you can view all project data, interval data, and account information within the Platform at any time
• Export your data — the Platform provides CSV export functionality for interval data, cost data, and monthly bill summaries
• Delete your data — you can delete individual projects within the Platform, or request full account deletion by contacting us
• Correct your data — you can update your account information, project details, and re-upload interval data at any time
• Opt out of marketing — transactional emails (account confirmations, analysis results) are necessary for the service, but you can opt out of promotional communications

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• Right to Know — you may request a detailed description of the personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months
• Right to Delete — you may request that we delete the personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions
• Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights
• No Sale of Personal Information — we do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA

To exercise your CCPA rights, contact us at privacy@wattchop.com. We will verify your identity before processing any request and respond within 45 days.

9. Cookies & Tracking

The WattChop Platform uses essential cookies only — specifically, session cookies required for authentication and maintaining your login state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or behavioral analytics tools that follow you across other websites.

10. Children's Privacy

The Platform is designed for commercial and industrial energy professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@wattchop.com.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, sending a notification to the email address associated with your account. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
